Microsoft Exchange Server 2007 offers a new feature called Unified Messaging (UM).  It allows voicemail systems, e-mail servers, and stand-alone fax machine messages to be stored in one system. With UM these disparate systems can be consolidated and save an IT department fewer administrative problems and generate a lower TCO. With voicemail and fax messages part of the Exchange inbox, any of the typical methods used to access these messages can be used such as Outlook, Outlook Web Access and now your mobile phone.  Voicemail and fax messages can be played in Outlook or OWA. They can even be pushed out to a mobile device, and listened to or viewed there.

Exchange UM also includes Outlook Voice Access (OVA). With a typical voicemail system when you dialed in you simple received your voicemail. With OVA you get full access to all your voicemail as well as you now have access to your e-mail messages and calendar. OVA streamlines the ability for your users to take action from the phone.
